New Square Celebration – Covid-19 Defiance in Rockland County

Measles Spreads – Monsey, New Square, Lakewood, Brooklyn

MEASLES OUTBREAK GROWS: 40 Cases In Monsey, New Square; At Least 3 In Lakewood, 6 In Brooklyn

The outbreak of measles is growing. The following are the latest updates available to YWN.

The Rockland County Health Department is now requiring more students to get the measles vaccine or stay home from school, as more confirmed cases are reported in the county. The health commissioner said students should stay home for three weeks if not vaccinated to keep measles from spreading.

Two children have been hospitalized – ONE IN INTENSIVE CARE – because of the measles outbreak, and the health department is taking more precautions to make sure it doesn’t spread among students.

As more measles cases are confirmed in Rockland, the health department is urging everyone in the county to make sure they’re vaccinated and expanding the list of schools where students should either get the vaccine or be kept home for three weeks.

Rockland County’s Commissioner of Health, Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert, announced Wednesday that all schools in the Village of New Square are now required to keep students who are un-vaccinated or under-vaccinated against the disease home until 21 days have passed since the last case of measles is confirmed in the county.

The same standards apply for students in specific schools in Monsey, Spring Valley, and any school with less than a 70 percent vaccination rate. So far, the county has given more two thousand doses of the measles vaccine, referred to as MMR. Ruppert is urging parents to make sure their whole families vaccination history.

The New Jersey Department of Health is warning residents about two additional confirmed cases of measles who could have exposed others to the infection while in Ocean County between October 25 and 30.

Anyone who visited the following locations may have been exposed to measles:

  • NPGS, 231 Main St, Lakewood, NJ 08701
    • October 25 between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.
    • October 29 between 2:15 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.
  • Pizza Plus, 241 4th St, Lakewood, NJ 08701 on October 28 between 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The Department is working in collaboration with the Ocean County Health Department to identify and notify people who might have been exposed during the time the individuals were infectious.

There have been dozens of stories published by YWN in the past few months of measles alerts issued by authorities involving Frum people who have not been vaccinated.

YWN published a story two weeks ago about a measles outbreak in New York, with 6 residents of Williamsburg and multiple residents of Rockland County confirmed to have the disease.

The Viznitz Monsey Girls School announced that any child who is not immunized, can’t return to school for 21 days. No “religious exemption” is accepted. A religious exemption does not work when there is a measles outbreak.

Three weeks ago, YWN reported about the Menahel of Breslov Mosdos in Tzefas having been infected with the measles. He was listed in critical condition at the time of the news story.

Last week, YWN published an article where MK (Yisrael Beitenu) Yulia Malinovsky on Monday, during a session of the Knesset Health Committee, blasted the chareidi public of intensifying the spread of measles in Israel because so many of the community refuse to vaccinate.

Measles is highly contagious, so anyone who is not protected against measles is at risk of getting the disease.

People who are unvaccinated risk getting infected with measles and spreading it to others, and they may spread measles to people who cannot get vaccinated because they are too young or have specific health conditions.

Individuals are considered protected or immune to measles if:

• they were born before 1957

• have received two doses of measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine

• have had measles confirmed by a health care provider

• or have a lab test confirming immunity

Symptoms include a fever, rash, cough, conjunctivitis or runny nose, and they could appear 10 to 12 days after exposure.

The virus can remain in the air or on surfaces for up to two hours.

To prevent the spread of illness, health officials are advising individuals who may have been exposed and who have symptoms consistent with measles to contact their health care provider, a local clinic, or a local emergency department before going for care.

Maybe the Rabbis Should be Telling the Community to Vaccinate their Children, Despite not Knowing the Science Behind it…

Since you have been indoctrinating your community to pay attention to you, you may want to hang up signs about vaccinating children before more children get sick and die unnecessarily.

Despite your conviction that education in math and science is unnecessary, perhaps you can see that without the help of EDUCATED medical practitioners, and sites like LostMessiah that informs the public (whether about things you like or don’t like), your children will die from diseases that ARE PREVENTABLE.

Officials Issue Measles Alert For NYC, Northern Suburbs

NEW SQUARE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — The New York City Health Department was on high alert Wednesday after at least 17 people tested positive for measles in the Tri-State area.

On Wednesday, Rockland County health officials said there were 11 confirmed and three suspected cases being investigated involving a mix of adults and children.

Rockland County Commissioner of Health Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert said children who have had their first MMR vaccine against measles, mumps, and rubella before 15 months don’t need to wait until age 4 for their second MMR as is typical. Children can get it as soon as 28 days after first shot, and parents should to talk to pediatricians.

A synagogue, a yeshiva and a health center in the Hasidic village of New Square are all listed as places visited by someone sick with measles, putting others at risk. The virus lives for about two hours after an infected person contaminates the air or a surface by coughing or sneezing.

MORE: Traveler May Have Exposed N.Y. And N.J. Residents To Measles

Health officials have said anyone at the following locations in Rockland, Westchester and Bergen counties may have been exposed to the measles:

  • Congregation Bais Elazer in Monsey, N.Y. on Oct. 4
  • Mia’s Reflexology in New City, N.Y. on Oct. 4
  • Lifetime Gym in Montvale, N.J. on Oct. 5
  • Wesley Kosher in Monsey N.Y. on Oct. 5
  • Congregation Borov in Monsey, N.Y. on Oct. 5 and Oct. 6
  • Costco in Nanuet, N.Y. on Oct. 7
  • Care 365 in Monsey, N.Y. on Oct. 8
  • Westchester Medical Center’s Emergency Room in Valhalla, N.Y. on Oct. 11

“People are very scared about it. They are trying to the best what they can,” one man said. “If there’s any problem they’re taking now precautions. They are taking in the community strong precautions and I think it’s at a good level.”

Similarly, the New York City Department of Health warned the Orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn after six children contracted the disease this month.

City officials say those diagnosed are between 11-months and four-years-old. Two of them were hospitalized with complications from pneumonia and an ear infection.

Officials say one of the children visited Israel. Gary Schlesinger of Parcare Community Health Network says he’s now getting calls from worried parents.

“They’re basically calling to check on records to make sure they’re compliant with all the vaccinations recommended by government,” he said.

The so-called “MMR” vaccine is very effective — and the vast majority of Americans are immunized as children. Rockland County is urging those who’ve not received the vaccine to do so.

“Even adults can be vaccinated. They have to take two doses of MMR vaccine, which is about 28 days apart,” said Dr. Rebecca Varghese, medical director at Lifeline Urgent Care.

The city says six of the children infected had not been vaccinated. The sixth had one dose, but was not yet immune.

City health officials will be handing out informational fliers in the neighborhood, and will be meeting with rabbis and elected officials to help spread awareness. In Rockland County, officials will offer a measles vaccine clinic on Thursday in Monsey and on Friday in Nanuet.

The classic symptoms of the measles include an unpleasant red rash, fever, runny nose, red eyes, sensitivity to light and coughing. The virus can live up to two hours on a surface.

Rabbi Twersky – Did you Know About Your Chef’s Proclivities?

Nachman Breier

Nachman Breier, former chef of New Square’s Grand Rabbi Twersky Charged In Nude Picture Scandal

TWERSKYWhen the story about a Monsey ambulance driver who was peeping into hotel rooms and photographing couples having sexual relations first circulated, we chose to leave the story go. Our mission is not necessarily to cover each and every incident wherein a Jewish man commits a crime. Were we to do that, the number of stories – so we’ve discovered – would be endless.

When today’s article about the incident, published in Lohud, identified the ambulance driver as Grand Rabbi Twersky’s former chef,  the story turned a corner. (We can set aside the fact that Twersky has a chef while members of his community live on welfare and foodstamps.)

Rabbi Twersky, worshipped as a virtual G-d in his community of New Square, is one of our favorites as far as how unpalatable he is. He drives a luxury vehicle, has two homes both equipped with their own private Mikvahs; and while his people are mostly starving he lives in the lap of luxury. A personal chef proves that point full stop.

Rabbi Twersky has even been known to threaten [order the burning of] a person within his own community who refused to worship New Square’s great synagogue. He then announced the celebration of the release of the criminal who committed the atrocious burning.  His tyranny seems to know no bounds.

rabbi readingNachman Breier was Rabbi Twersky’s personal chef. One does not just become a Peeping Tom [sexual preditor] overnight. Moreover, he still drives Rabbi Twersky around (in his luxury vehicles) occasionally.

So, Rabbi Twersky, we ask: “Have you known about your employee(s)’ sexual proclivities?”

Cops: Grand rabbi’s ex-chef snapped nude pics

A driver and former chef for New Square’s grand rabbi David Twersky faces charges for allegedly taking surreptitious cell phone photos of nude couples in a Bergen County, New Jersey, motel.

Officers in Fort Lee arrested Nachman Breier on Monday night on a charge of third-degree invasion of privacy. The arrest comes following an investigation into a prowler reportedly looking into windows at the Skyview Motel on Bergen Boulevard early on the morning of May 18, Fort Lee police said in a news release.

Breier, 54, lives in Monsey and is part of the Skverer Hasidic sect, which is based in New Square and led by Twersky.

Multiple sources, including two New Square residents and one former resident , told The Journal News that Breier served as Twersky’s cook for more than 20 years and is still among a small group of followers chosen to drive the grand rabbi to special events. Breier’s brother, Herschel, also worked for years in Twersky’s home as a house manager and aide.

Nachman Breier, who police identified as a beverage deliveryman, is suspected in similar incidents in Bergen County, New Jersey, and Rockland County according to a statement released by Deputy Chief Timothy Ford.

Calls to Breier’s home were not immediately returned.

One motel guest told officers that an unknown man opened the hotel room window and took cell phone photos of him and his wife while they were naked. Another couple told officers that a man opened the window to their room, moved the curtain to the side and reached into the room attempting to photograph them as they were engaged in sexual activity, police said.

The man ran off when spotted, police said.

A man later identified as Nachman Breier was seen driving off in a black Toyota Sienna minivan with a New York Volunteer Ambulance Service license plate, police said.

Anybody with additional information related to the case is asked to call the Fort Lee Police Department Detective Bureau at 201-592-3510.

A Convenient Deception, East Ramapo – Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan

East Ramapo – State Majority Leader John Flanagan Vows Support In East Ramapo BUT Look To Whom He Is Vowing Support!

East Ramapo – State Majority Leader John Flanagan Vows Support In East Ramapo BUT Look To Whom He Is Vowing Support!

Senate Majority Leader Republican John Flanagan, has warned against a monitor, saying that the state shouldn’t usurp the power of an elected school board. The East Ramapo school board has opposed a state monitor with veto power.

“Really what they want to do is overtake that school district. And we’re not doing that,” Flanagan, R-Suffolk County, told a Jewish group.

If you have friends in Suffolk County remind them at election time that their representative is beholden to those who provide little to no secular education to their own kids and who have decimated a once top performing public school system in Rockland County.

Rabbi David Twersky, The Emperor Wears Official Plates

In 2011 published an article asking why Rabbi David Twersky, New Square’s emperor, would drive in a chauffeur driven car with “Official New York” License Plates. As of Shmayra Rosenberg’s sale of the site, we don’t think that question was ever answered.

Why Does The Skvere Rebbe’s Car Have NY State Official Plates, Lights And A Siren?

Skvere Rebbe’s liscense plate 6-5-11UPDATED: Rabbi David Twersky, the Skvere Rebbe who rules over the Village of New Square with an iron fist, apparently has official state license plates on his car, strobe lights and a siren. Why?

Last updated at 8:47 pm CDT.

A reader took this picture today at the Rebbe’s house and emailed it to me. If you look closely at the front grill, you can see 6 strobe lights. I’m also told the care has more strobe lights in the back as well as strobe lights built into the headlights and tail lights. And I’m told the car also has a siren.

And, I’m told, when the Rebbe goes out, he often has three or four other cars with official plates, lights and sirens accompanying him.

Why does the Rebbe’s car have official New York State license plates, strobe lights and a siren?

[Hat Tip: Bugsy, for the Rebbe riding in his car on the freeway.]

Rabbi Twersky, His Secrets, His Control, His Victims

by LostMessiah, March 4, 2016, Corrected March 5, 2016

Rabbi David Twersky

A Community that Hails its Criminals as Heroes, Worships its Grand Rebbe as a G-d and Hides its Secrecy by Threat, Force and Intimidation

Much has been written about Rabbi Twersky and his Hasidic enclave located in New Square, a small incorporated village within Rockland County. But Rabbi Twersky’s dirty laundry has only been aired by courageous few.  To his followers, known as the Skverer Hasidim,  Rabbi David Twersky, is nearly akin to G-d. He prays in his own sanctuary, has his own Mikvah, exclusively for himself and his sons; who would not diminish themselves to the use of the communities’ Mikvah. Rabbi Twersky travels in a black Cadillac XTS, chauffer driven, and vacations at his multimillion-dollar riverside vacation home in Upper Nyack, New York, also adorned with its own private Mikvah. While most of his followers live below the poverty line (many getting help from government welfare programs and subsidies) and while they likely should be angered by his unabashed (and in our view embarrassing) wealth, he is instead revered, a tzadik, who his followers believe is deserving of his immense wealth. He is… idolized.

Rabbi David Twersky is also in supreme control over his followers, keeps them on a tight leash, an iron hand, determining where they educate their children, pray, reside, to some extent whom they marry and how they raise their children. When his Church… no, sorry, synagogue members decide to pray outside of the community, he orders that they be “frightened”, including the case of a man, Aron Rottenberg, who was burned outside his home, an act supposedly intended to frighten him. Rottenberg was burned over 50% of his body on May 22, 2011. Prior to the incident, the perpetrator, Shaul Spitzer (then 18) and a group of Twersky’s hired guns, had lived with the Rebbe to serve his daily needs. Shaul Spitzer, despite claims that he acted with others, was the only perpetrator who went to jail. Spitzer was released early after a judge decided that he should have been granted “youthful offender status” when the attack happened. Upon release this past summer, a celebration, including dancing in the street, delighted residents of New Square.

FailedMessiah, on October 28, 2015, reported that free coffee was being distributed in honor of released arsonist Spitzer, a hero to the community. The poster, written in Yiddish, refers to Spitzer’s release [corrected 3.8.16] as “HaChesed HaGadol” meaning the great pious act, and states that there should be great joyousness over his release. It does not mention that the explosive device was initially intended for the house of a man and his children. The fact that there was a sleeping family, including small children in that house, is of little consequence. The fact that Spitzer’s victim spent months in a hospital, went through dozens of skin grafts and has little use over part of his body, is also of little consequence.

Officially, Rabbi David Twersky owns nothing. His vacation home is owned by a company called Menucha of Nyack LLC (menucha translates from Hebrew to English as “rest”). His car is the property of another LLC. Money gets transferred back and forth amongst different LLC entities for purposes like payment of taxes, or alternatively avoiding taxes, as in the case of transfers to and from the community’s synagogue. In one example of a paper trail the referenced article indicated that one LLC  paid the taxes on the multimillion dollar home by selling the home to another LLC for the amount of taxes owed. Once the taxes were paid the home got transferred back to Twersky at no cost, all through differing LLC’s. There are various examples of financial and tax manipulation. All of the  paperwork between the LLCs skirts the lines of legal and illegal behavior, crawling in and out of legal and tax loopholes. The various transactions float within a grey area that would require a team of forensic accountants to decipher. If we had to put a label on it, we’d go for money laundering, but that’s just us.

And, officially while Rabbi David Twersky demands control over every minutiae of activity within his community, he refuses to take ownership, not only of his wealth, but of the sins of his community. In addition to the burning referenced above, which in a series of articles Rabbi Twersky claimed was an “unfortunate incident” (and presumably not committed under his direction ); and the vast array of cases of intimidation, there are countless accounts of sexual abuse within the Skverer community that have been covered up or enshrouded in secrecy. In an article in Lohud on July 8, 2014, entitled Sex-abuse Victims Lack a Voice in New Square, Lohud described the silenced voices of abuse victims.  Despite intimate knowledge of the cases of abused children, the vulnerable victims are silenced by Rabbi Twersky and his followers.

Herschel Taubenfeld, who had been prosecuted and convicted was in some sense unique in that he acknowledged guilt. It was not surprise when he received a sweetheart deal. When his brother, Rabbi Moshe Menachem Taubenfeld,  was accused of multiple sexual assaults of a boy over a period of years, the results were vastly different. In one Lohud article, dated July 18, 2015, the author comments that the victim of an abuse case testified “in excruciating detail” about the years of sexual abuse he suffered at the hands of Moshe Taubenfeld.  At the time we, who followed the case, were certain that finally an abuser within that community would be held criminally liable. Yet, while the Moshe Taubenfeld case should undoubtedly have yielded a conviction, particularly in light of the horrifying testimony of his victim, an utterly shocking verdict led to his being found not guilty, on July 30, 2015. Taubenfeld abused numerous children over the course of many years. It is reported that Rabbi Twersky knew; and he did nothing. In fact, to the contrary, he protected the abusers.

According to, posted on the date of the verdict of Taubenfeld, quoting from Rabbi Nuchem Rosenberg a longtime haredi anti-child-sex-abuse activist, “the judge owes his election to New Square’s block vote.”

Rabbi Rosenberg, for his part in regularly commenting and recognizing the abuses within the greater Hasidic community, in 2012 had bleach thrown in his face.

In an article in the Forward entitled Hasidic Enclave keeps its Secrets Amid Elucive Rebbe’s Tight Control, the author writes:

“In 2008, a committee of six prominent members of the New Square community was established to handle sex abuse cases from within. Known as the Vaad, the committee was formed with help from the Orthodox children and family services agency, Ohel. The committee cites three foundations for its mission: education, prevention, and taking care of the abusers and their victims. But in a 2010 interview with the Jewish Star, an Orthodox publication, its chairman, New Square businessman Isaac Breuer, did not respond directly when asked if his committee would report child sex crimes to law enforcement authorities.”
To date, however, the Vaad, has done little to reduce the number of cases of sexual abuse.  Although there are members of the Vaad who are well-intentioned, in a community which frowns upon claims of abuse, it is all but meaningless lip-service. The Vaad is little more than a means of tightening Rabbi Twersky’s control over his community and further enshrouding the abuse in secrecy. Although an abuse victim should get psychological counseling, with the Rabbi’s hands in that cookie jar, what should happen and what does are generally on two separate sides of the spectrum.
In honor of Laiby Stern, Abe Weiss, and the many victims of child sexual abuse; in honor of  Shulum Deen who has had the courage to speak out about the secrets within the Hasidic community and his own suffering at the hands of the community, we will be reporting, investigating, trying to shed light.
In loving memory of Deb Tambor z”l– who left the New Square Community, divorced, lost her custody battle after her own father testified against her, and then took her own life at the age of 33, may you have found peace.
We hope to give you justice.
