Brooklyn Attorney Charged In $4 Million Real Estate Scam: Feds

Shimon Rosenfeld is accused of using millions from real estate investors, including for a Crown Heights project, for his own trading.

BROOKLYN, NY — A Brooklyn attorney who scammed real estate investors out of millions of dollars has been charged with wire fraud, prosecutors announced.

Shimon Rosenfeld, 59, was arrested Wednesday after a federal investigation into his years-long scheme, which included at least $4 million “investments” in properties in Crown Heights, Greenpoint and in Philadelphia, Pa., according to court documents.

Rosenfeld told at least four investors that he would put their money into real estate projects, but instead ended up using the money for his own trades out of a brokerage account, prosecutors said. He is charged with wire fraud and could face 20 years in prison if convicted.

“Through this alleged scheme, Rosenfeld abused his position as an attorney and betrayed his victims’ trust for his own selfish gain,” stated Acting United States Attorney Seth DuCharme. Those who commit fraud, including lawyers, must be brought to justice, and this Office will continue to work tenaciously to ensure integrity in the practice of law.”

But the reality is we cannot completely blame this group when our government is actively proposing that Covid-19 is nothing more than the flu. Why should a religious group listen to anything more than the United States President, Donald Trump? If he is unwilling to accept the dangers than we cannot really argue that his flock of sheep do not accept the dangers.

This Video Speaks for Itself. 

The WhatsApp text containing this video stated that this occurred in Crown Heights at the corner of Crown Street and Brooklyn Avenue. The NYPD and Shomrim were alleged to have been called to the scene. We cannot tell from the video of this was a mass funeral or simply a close family escort.

This type of tragedy should be unthinkable for everyone involved. We are all victims of a terrible illness, the mismanagement of the entire situation by political leaders and the faithless continuity of large congregations by both influential church leaders and rabbis.

But, when citizen starts attacking citizen, there is a reflection of a whole different level of outrage and hostility.

We should all be outraged. Not at one another but at the political and religious leaders who are quick to blame and slow to accept accountability.

We will be posting a series of articles on Covid-19 and the Crown Heights, New York catastrophe. People are in critical condition in disproportionate numbers. Death rates are uncertain.

The members of the Crown Heights community believed what they were told by the Federal Government, and what the response was of their rabbis, namely that Covid-19 was being overblown. In turn, they attended Purim parties and Simchas (happy occasions) which were breeding grounds for transmission of the virus from one person to another. Crown Heights is crowded. They live multiple generations in one home. This is a Petri-dish environment and the people should have been warned accordingly.  

We are posting articles from a number of sources, none of which likely supports this site. In particular, we do not have the permission of CrownHeights.info to reprint the Tehillim List in full, or of Collive to reprint their photographs or their documents. We hope they will understand that we are doing so in good faith and in an effort to spread a message, not one of hate, but one of compassion and care. If asked to remove their references, we will oblige without question.

The Chabad of Crown Heights and other Hasidim of Brooklyn supported in huge numbers the election of President Trump and those he chose to surround himself with as his advisers and government officials. The community of Crown Heights in large proportion took President Trump’s “lead by example” approach and his decision to be flippant with Corona was passed on to the elders within Crown Heights who were then, flippant with the virus as were their children.

As a result, the community of Chabad in Crown Heights and of other Hasidic groups in Brooklyn are testing positive in disproportionate numbers. In Crown Heights they are critically ill disproportionately. They need help. They need medical assistance. They need compassion and they are asking for prayers.
