A Brooklyn math tutor charged with repeatedly violating a six-year-old student is expected to go to trial in the fall.
Moshe Friedman was hired by the young boy’s parents to conduct in-home tutorials in 2013. Instead, for over 10 months, Friedman allegedly repeatedly assaulted and sexually abused the child.
Friedman, 30, was arrested in January 2015 for first-degree sexual conduct against a child and other shocking charges.
After several routine court appearances, prosecutors informed Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Raymond Guzman on Wednesday that they are ready for trial in the fall.
According to court documents, Friedman allegedly hit the child in the back of the head, causing his glasses to fall off and injuring his hand.
On another occasion, while the boy’s hand was in a cast, Friedman allegedly followed him into the bathroom and violated him, according to the criminal complaint.
Friedman allegedly sexually assaulted the boy, shoved a rag in his mouth and threatened him with a gun.
“You’d better not tell your parents or I’ll kill you and your family,” Friedman allegedly said to the boy.
If convicted on the top charge, Friedman faces up to 25 years in prison.
Friedman and his attorney Arthur Aidala both declined comment outside court.

I am not questioning the abuse that’s for the detectives to handle. Im questioning the back story to this I am not sure I believe this was the real reason the guy had access to the kid. If he was a yiddish reading tutor I would believe it – that is so important a skill that parents would spend extra to be sure their 6 year old is at the right level.
But math? In first grade? Even kids who go to schools that actually teach math in first grade would not likely have a tutor at that age…or do more ‘modern’ chassidim who care about education and want to teach their kids math do it privately? And if so WHY would they hire a guy who likely never formally learned math himself?

@wow, we are trying to fix how the comment feed works. We have not perfected that one yet. Working on it. We are not sure how this guy had access to the kid either and we see your skepticism. We have heard cases, though, where parents are teaching their kids subjects that they do not learn in school (in secret), math and science among them. That being said, there are any number of reasons in our minds why they could be using this story. However, we, too wait to see how the investigations by law enforcement play out.

Something in this story does not make any sense.
Does anyone really hire a math tutor for a six year old? And in a chassidish school where weve been told over and over again that they dont even teach math?
And if some parents somehow felt the need to hire a math tutor for a first grader (!!) in a school that doesnt teach high level math in any grade – why in the world would they hire a guy who probably never learned math himself?
What could his qualifications possibly be that he gets paid to tutor first grade math?
Sorry more details needed to make the background to this story believable.
