News 12 – Graveside Protests in Kiryas Joel

Published on May 22, 2016

KIRYAS JOEL – An unprecedented graveside protest was held by members of the Hassidic community in Kiryas Joel over the burial site for Satmar President Yitzchak Rosenberg, the high-profile businessman who drowned in Miami this past week.

The community says they are upset that Rosenberg is buried next to Grand Rebbe Joel Teitelbaum, their highest holy leader.

One critic, who asked not to be identified by News 12, said that the burial defiled the holy grounds because Rosenberg was found naked at the time of his death.

The businessman was one of three people pulled from the waters at Miami Beach, two of them were naked. It’s not clear if the riptide removed their clothes.

While Rosenberg was a huge financial benefactor to the Hassidic community, he also was an admitted fraudster with ties to some of the biggest names in the Italian mob. In 1999, he pleaded guilty to a number of fraud charges, testifying against the Gambino Crime Family and John Gotti Jr. and admitting that he helped launder hundreds of thousands of dollars from a mob-owned strip club through his yeshiva in Brooklyn.

News 12 sources say religious leaders were paid off to hide Rosenberg’s checkered past and push through his burial on sacred grounds.

News 12 reached out to Village of Kiryas Joel leaders for comment, but calls were not returned.

  1. It is more than likely the riptide did in fact strip these guys to the skin. The power of a riptide is beyond belief and you have near zero chance of surviving if you get caught in one.

But let’s pretend for a moment that these men did in fact strip down before entering the water….. The ocean is considered a spring according to Halachah – and is a perfectly acceptable mikvah. That these cretains A) Chose not to provide the benefit of the doubt (as commanded by Jewish Law) or B) assume immersion BUT settle on “skinny dipping” is yet further proof that regardless of their lineage – they are not practicing Judaism.

    • More likely, they know these men much better than we do and if they arent willing to give the benefit of the doubt there must be a very good reason why.

    • Nah. A rip tide is not a rip current. If, in fact, they died as a result of a rip tide or current it is more likely that they didn’t know to float (tide) or swim parallel to shore (both) and therefore died from exhaustion. If the current was pushing them away from the beach and they were exhausting themselves to death trying to get to shore, one can see (and then pour Clorox in their eyes) how swimming attire could be pushed off by the current.

What does the police report say? Also, all such unaccountable deaths without opportunity for autopsy may automatically go to Major Crimes or Homicide departments.

      That being said, hi Rebitzman!

  2. What’s most interesting is that the people who knew Rosenberg best – other Satmars from KJ – do not give him the benefit of the doubt when he was found naked. That’s because they know hm for being the lowlife that he was.
