ROCKLAND BUSINESSES BENEFIT FROM E-RATE:
3 Rockland businesses received a total of $2.6 million dollars to provide telecommunications services at yeshivas in Orange and Rockland counties, according to E-Rate online records.
A search of the federal program’s database found two Yeshivas – United Talmudical Academy in Kiryas Joel and Yeshiva Vitnitz in Monsey – received the most E-Rate funds for computers, Internet and phones compared to any other school in the area, totaling $10.58 million dollars.
According to online records, Communication Data & Security Inc., in Spring Valley, provided $1.6 million dollars in services to both schools during their top grossing years. Company president Arthur Jacknis said by phone Tuesday, that the scope of work performed was extensive but that he didn’t have any documents to provide showing what was done. An online search of the business address, 55 Union Road, shows hundreds of thousands of dollars in Federal and state tax liens on the property.
Two Monsey-based companies, Prime Security & Communication Inc. and Pincus Alarm & Telephone provided a combined total of $1 million in services at Yeshiva Vitznitz, according to records. Both Monsey companies are registered to separate home addresses and no one was available for comment.
Our calls to UTA and Yeshiva Vitnitz have not been returned.
An FBI investigation into the alleged misuse of E-Rate funds is currently underway. A number of locations in Monsey and Kiryas Joel were raided last Wednesday.
