A War Song, Albany Gone Awry… Where Have All the Women Gone?

New York Senate

There are no eloquent sentences to fit our soul-deep disgust at the picture above. It represents not only allegedly Jewish men dressing a part of religious educational activists but playing an entirely different role; but also of elected officials who have clearly been purchased either for votes or for something more nefarious. And the conspicuous absence of women is a whole different pit of snakes.

We decided to respectfully borrow a song from Pete Seeger, written in 1962, later sung by Peter, Paul & Mary, to express our views on the unsettling “lobbying mission” of yesterday, March 8, 2016 and the photograph above.

As a historical preface, during the Vietnam War years and the years that followed, singers like Pete Seeger, Peter, Paul & Mary, Arlo Guthrie , Harry Chapin , The Carpenters and many others wrote songs inspired by hope. They were, in their own way, fighting a war for kindness, behaving better towards one another, and heroism. They wanted to see a better world and hoped their music would add color to the darkness.

Where have all the Women Gone? Where have all the Senators Gone?

Where have all the bad men gone, long time passing?
Where have all the corrupt men gone, long time ago?
Where have all the Agudat men gone?
Gone to lobbying everyone.
Oh, when will they be accused?
Oh, when will they be accused?
Where have all the senators gone, long time passing?
Where have all the elected men gone, long time ago?
Where have all the senators gone?
Gone to bloc votes, everyone.
Oh, likely they’re already gone?
Oh, likely they’re already gone?

Where have all the educations gone, long time passing?
Where have all the educated gone, long time ago?
Where have all the educators gone?
Gone out the window everyone
Oh, when will our children learn?
Oh, when will our children learn?

Where have all the good men gone, long time passing?
Where have all the honest men gone, long time ago?
Where have all the decent men gone?
Gone for intimidation everyone?
Oh, when will we ever hear?
Oh, when will we ever know?
Where have all the women gone, long time passing?
Where have all the mothers gone, long time ago?
Where have all the loving gone?
Hasid men have silenced them everyone.
Oh, when will they help the kids?
Oh, when will they help the kids?
Where have all the young boys gone, long time passing?
Where have all the young boys gone, long time ago?
Where has their protection gone?
Gone to hell and back, everyone.
Oh, how will they sleep at night?
Oh, how will they sleep at night?

Where have all the young girls gone, long time passing?
Where have all the older girls gone, long time ago?
Where have all the young girls gone?
Chose for husbands everyone.
Oh, when will they have some say?
Oh, when will they have some say?

Where have all just ones gone, long time passing?
Where have all righteous gone, long time ago?
Where have all the voices gone?
A community has silenced them everyone.
Oh, when will they ever speak?
Oh, when will they ever speak?
